sir,
Government House
7th. February, 1911.
In reply to your Confidential
Despatch of the 15th. of last December, I have the honour
to state that, upon my return to this Colony from leave, I
requested Sir P. H. May and the Captain superintendent of
Police to enquire and report whether any increase in the
Police Force is necessary, and I now forward herewith a
copy of their joint report dated the 14th, ultimo. I have,
subject to your sanction, approved all their recommenda-
-tions and I have directed that they should be given
effect to forthwith. The total increase in expenditure
involved is $6,866 per annum, which can probably be met
this year by savings in Personal Emoluments.

I do not think that at the
present time an enquiry is desirable into the aspect of
the matter to which Sir 7. H. May alluded in the last 3
lines
